What is the Average Length of Stay (ALoS) setting?

Updated over a week ago

The "Average Length of Stay" (ALoS) settingcaps the number of nights included in a search. This prevents "outlier" searches (like a 6-month stay) from skewing your data with unrealistic results.

The Result: Your ranking data stays focused on the stay lengths your guests actually book.

💡 Pro-Tip: For the high quality data, we recommend setting your ALoS to match the average number of nights guests typically stay at your listing.

How it works:

For example, if you set your Average Length of Stay (ALoS) to 4 nights, we'll search for 1-night, 2-night, 3-night and 4-night stays in your calendar.

If you have a large break in between bookings (ex. 20 days), we will break it into chunks of 4 nights so the data is more reliable.

What is the Auto-detected ALOS?

The Auto-detected Average Length of Stay (ALoS),is automatically calculated as 2 nights above your highest minimum night requirement found in your Airbnb calendar over the next 12 months.

This helps align searches with your listing’s specific booking requirements.

How to Change Your ALOS

To set your own ALoS,

  1. Go to the ALOS setting and select your preferred option from the dropdown.

  2. Click "Change".

    1. Disable Auto-Updating to maintain manual control over your ALoS settings.

⚠️ If disabled, we may search for stay lengths your listing doesn't allow. This will result in a 320+/320 rank, as your listing cannot appear in searches that don't meet your minimum stay requirements.

  3. Click "Confirm"

Viewing Your ALoS Change History

All updates are recorded in the Optimization Journal within your A/B Testing section. You can identify the source of the change by the description:

  • Manual Changes: Appear as "Average length of stay updated to [X] nights"

  • Auto-Detected Changes: Appear as "Average length of stay updated to [X] nights with auto detection"

Auto-updates to Your ALOS

If your ALoS is shorter than your listing's minimum stay requirements over the next six search intervals, the system will automatically adjust it to match.

This ensures your data remains reliable and stays aligned with your actual Airbnb booking rules.

Why we do this: If your ALoS is shorter than your minimum stay, your listing won't show up in search results. Auto-updating keeps your data useful by matching your real-world booking rules.

You will receive an in-app notification whenever the system automatically updates your ALoS setting (see sample below).

How to Disable Auto-updating

If you prefer to manage ALOS manually:

  1. Go to the listing’s Rankings section.

  2. Click the Settings (gear icon).

  3. Toggle off “Auto-updating.”

  • 🔄 Restoring Auto-updates: To enable auto-updates, repeat the steps above and move the Auto-Updating toggle to the On position.

  • ⚙️ Quick Settings: You can toggle Auto-Updating at the same time you update your ALoS.

  • 📍 Listing Specific: This setting is unique to this listing; your other listings remain unchanged.
